Galerie Fontana in 2023

Galerie Fontana, by Joris Montens and Stefan Heinis, started collaborating with Ruud van Empel for the first time from September 2023. They have now shown his work at the Unseen Photography Fair in Amsterdam, and have subsequently prepared a Duo presentation at the PAN, a fair for art, antiques and design that is held annually in November at the RAI in Amsterdam, together with Claudy Jongstra. In November the first solo presentation of his latest works will follow in the Gallery: mainly natural works from recent years such as the Arcadia, Floresta, and Voyage Pittoresque series are shown here. A preview of this exhibition can be seen on November 2, after which it will open to the public on Saturday, November 4.

David Sylvian

David Sylvian (singer of the former band Japan) first saw my work at Stux Gallery in New York around 2007. He then asked me if he could use works from the series Study in Green for the cover of his new album Manafon which was released in 2009. In 2015, a 316-page book came out about him titled Hypergraphia-the writings of David Sylvian. For this book, too, he asked me to provide works to accompany his lyrics. In 2022 David again asked me to provide new works for his latest album: Do you know me now? an exclusive 10 CD box set. He chose works from my Collage series, and the Floresta series that now illustrate this prestigious release on the cover. It was recently released.

There has never been a period in photography’s long history – no school, no movement – when flowers have not been a central focus, whether in the form of the classic still life, the botanical study, incorporated into portraiture and studies of the human body, documented in street photography, or used subversively in surrealist collage and montage.

Flora Imaginaria

The book on Flora Fotografica, compiled by William A. Ewing and Danaé Panchaud has also been turned into a Flora Imaginaria exhibit at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida.
